When the Georgia gold rush brought new faces to the state, Georgia native William Cumming established multiple businesses in town around the mid-1800s.  The gold rush eventually moved towards California in 1849, but Cumming bustled with activity once again in the 1980s, the product of expansion in metro Atlanta and the completion of GA-400.

Today, Cumming is a popular commuter city, housing many of Atlanta’s employees just outside the cityscape.
